The First Endocrine Complex in Malaysia finds Government Nod

The much-awaited Endocrine Complex in Malaysia will get to see the daylight as the Government approved the Malaysian Ringgit 365 million budget for its development. The proposed plan is to provide a medical center, surgical center, research center and a training center for endocrine patients for patients across the country and around the world after its completion which is due in the year 2020. The new endocrine complex located within a drive for 30 minutes from Kuala Lumpur city center will be a first of the kind development in Malaysia where nearly 3.5 million adults suffer from diabetes between the ages of 18 โ€“ 40 years. It will also serve as an institute for training and produce more endocrinologists in the domains of medicine and surgery.

But the question arises, what exactly are endocrine diseases and what is its impact?

Endocrine diseases occur when the endocrine system comprising of the brain, thyroid, pancreas, adrenal gland, ovaries, and testis produces too little or too much endocrine hormones causing a hormonal imbalance which affects the metabolism of the body. All functions of the body such as digestive and reproductive systems are affected by this imbalance.

The government of Malaysia is making a lot of investments in the field of healthcare infrastructure development in both the rural and urban areas. That is nearly USD 6.25 Billion for a country with a population of nearly 31 million people. This marks a near 47% increase in figures when compared to previous records.

While healthcare is primarily the responsibility of the government, the private sector too is showing tremendous growth in this field โ€“ mainly due to the influx of international patients for treatment.
